Choosing Your Favourite Beach

Modified on Sun, 29 Jun at 4:39 PM

The TideLight app lets you stay connected to the coast by providing real-time tide data for thousands of locations.  You can easily search for a beach, and the app will automatically match it to the nearest available tidal station.

How to Search for a Beach

  1. Tap the Location icon in the bottom menu bar.

  2. Use the search bar at the top to type the name of a beach, town, or area (e.g. “Portreath”).

  3. You can also tap Use my current location to find beaches near you automatically. This will also display the distance in kilometres from your current location.

What Happens When You Search

When you search for a beach, the app doesn’t just show an exact name match.

It returns the nearest tidal station available to that beach. For example, if you search for Portreath, you may see Perranporth as the closest station.

This is because real-time tide data is only available from official tidal stations, and the app intelligently finds the best match based on proximity.

What You’ll See After Selecting a Location

Once you tap Add next to a beach or choose Preview, you’ll see:

  • The current tide height (in metres)

  • An arrow indicator showing if the tide is coming in or going out

  • The next high and low tide times

  • A simple tide chart showing today’s tidal curve
