Reading the Tide Info

Modified on Sun, 29 Jun at 4:36 PM

The TideLight app gives you a simple way to check what the tide is doing at your chosen beach. Here's how to read the information on the screen.

What the Main Number Means

The big number at the top of the screen (for example, 6.2m) shows the current height of the tide in metres.

This tells you how high the sea is right now, based on trusted tidal data.

The number changes throughout the day as the tide comes in and goes out.

Tide Direction

Next to the tide height, you’ll see a coloured arrow:

  • Green arrow pointing up – the tide is coming in

  • Red arrow pointing down – the tide is going out

This lets you know whether the sea level is rising or falling.

Tide Times

Just below the tide height, you’ll see the next four tide times:

  • Low – the time and height of the next low tide

  • High – the time and height of the next high tide

You’ll usually see two high tides and two low tides each day, but this can vary depending on the location and the moon cycle.

How Often Is the Data Updated?

The app uses official tide predictions from trusted sources. Once you’ve chosen a beach, the information updates automatically — no need to refresh anything manually.
